FRIDAY FINISH

Sew many projects unfinished. Sew little time spent sewing. What have I been doing? Visiting with my mom and reading, reading, reading. I LOVE my new toy ... Barnes&Noble's NOOK. And what better way of keeping it close, wherever I go - a NOOK Book Bag. First there was this one. Now here's Proto-type #2.


I made the back pocket a little bigger and added a bit more velcro to keep the cards and money a little safer.

Isn't this just too cute!

Mom is loving these bags! I'm working on a pattern ... I'll let you know when my scribbled notes are legible.

FRIDAY FINISH

PHEW ... didn't think I was going to manage it this week. My mom is visiting from Florida - she's been here a week and staying until next week. We've been doing too much playing and I've not been doing much working (sewing isn't REALLY work but it's MY work - and I LOVE it!).

On Mother's Day, my Cute Husband decided that my mom and I both really needed a NOOK - it's Barnes & Noble's e-reader. WOW doesn't even describe how great this gadget is ... in seconds I can download a book ... anytime, anywhere. AND - Mom and I are linked together so when she buys a book, it goes right into my NOOK and when I buy one - she gets it. Thankfully - we both read the same type of books ... murder and mayhem.

So ... my Sew and Tell for this week ... I made my mom a new purse. I went into my sewing room early yesterday (in my jammies) and came out at 1:00 with this ...
I gave it a long strap because she likes to wear her purse across her body. Here's the back - a zippered pocket to stash her cell phone and cash.

AND ... the best part ... are you ready?

It holds her NOOK! Aren't I too clever?!! It also holds her credit cards on the left with a flap cover that's velcroed down. I've seen lots of binder covers, book covers, etc. so I played around with several ideas and I'm just so pleased with how this turned out.

She'll never again leave her book behind at the hair dresser! Now, I need to make one for me.

A BAG AND IT'S LITTLE BAG FRIEND

My youngest daughter thinks I can make anything. A wonderful compliment but it's not always easy to meet this expectation. She also thinks her Dad (the cute husband) is Superman. That does NOT make me Lois Lane!


So, while traveling to our friend Donna's house - daughter came north and I went south, Sarah ask me to make her a pouch for her flat iron (?) straightening iron (?) non-curling iron (?). This thing gets hot and stays hot long after it's turned off.


Sarah found a pattern for one in Quilter's Home magazine. It was for a small Clover iron, not big enough. I futzed around with it, made it bigger, gathered it at the bottom, made a few other adjustments and ... here it is.

The cord needed it's own spot. I used Insul-Brite for the batting so it can be put away hot and stay protected. Wasn't exactly sure how much fabric I'd need (this was a trial and error type project) so I quilted up a fat quarter. Ended up with enough left over to make a HumBug Bag to go with it. It's getting mailed to her today.

BAGS AND BAGS AND BABIES

I've been on a bag making kick for awhile now. I made several for Christmas gifts, a couple just for me and then made a few more. I LOVE to make bags! Making bags is fun. Making bags are fun ... hmmm ... I think it's - Making bags IS fun. Any hoo ... it's a great way to use up bits and pieces of fabric, try out a new technique, embellish without a huge committment ... it's just fun!

These are 2 little bags that were made from patterns. Often when I use a pattern, I end up either changing it up as I go or make a 2nd (or 3rd) one with lots of changes.
These totes are made from my own pattern. The pink and blue one in the back is made from a chunk of fabric that was too cute to cut. It has fairy frogs on it. The other larger one - I had a Laurel Birch fat quarter and cut out the cats, added strips and quilted it.Here's 2 more from the Laurel Birch fabric. I really LOVE Laurel Birch cats!

What does one do with so many bags? If I love you, you've probably received one (or several) as a gift ... Christmas, birthday, Festivus, Columbus Day ... any holiday deserves a gift. They are starting to pile up though. I think I'm going to try and sell a few at the Southern Comforters Quilt Show in March. That's it for bags - at least for today. And now ... on to babies!!

This is the newest member of our family - my cousin's daughter's son. He's 1 day old. I do LOVE babies - even more than Laurel Birch cats. Next time, I'm going to try and get a picture of his feet. Baby feet are the BEST!
