EDIT (from yesterday) AND TREASURES

HMMMM ... don't know what the heck happened to my post from yesterday ... 1/2 the words were missing. Blogger was acting very weird and obviously I didn't save before posting. So - the missing part:

As a surveyor, my Dad often had the opportunity to stumble in, around and through old barns and such and oh, the treasures he found! The sewing basket was one. And of course the Button Hook collection. This is a camel saddle. I don't the story behind it or anything about it. I do know that it served as a footstool for many years when I was growing up. My mom wanted NO part of it in their retirement home in Florida (when they moved from RI) so ... it came to my house. It's been carted around the world with the Cute Husband and me for years. Next time we go to VT to visit my sister ... it's going with us - it's her turn now.

This treasure I've waited YEARS to call mine. All the St. John babies sat in this high chair. For as long as I can remember it's sat in the kitchen (or dining room) of my parents home. Mom even took it to Florida. And FINALLY ... it's in my house!
While I was in FL helping my mom move into a condo (and downsizing her "stuff"), the Cute Husband drove down from MD to pick this up and a few other treasures.
Other missing words from yesterday ... my Dad died last year (at the age of 91). I hold near and dear all the treasures he gave to me - the ones I hold in my hands and the ones I hold in my heart. Happy Father's Day.

FRIDAY FINISH AND MOVIE STAR FUN

I'm baaaack! Just spent the last 4 days in Florida with my mom (the clam chowder snob) and my sister (Goofy 2) and her family. I think it was warmer in MD than it was in FL! A fun visit but it's always good to be back home.

Here's my FRIDAY FINISH for Amy's Sew 'n Tell (see the sidebar button). This is the February block for Elsie Campbell's BOM: Love Knows No Season.

And ... a little tea towel that's going to be for sale at my guild's quilt show this weekend.

Now ... on to a little movie star fun!!! If you're old enough to remember Smokey and the Bandit, you might enjoy these pictures. If you're not old enough, well, shoot - look it up on the internet. My brother-in-law (Goody 2's husband) just happens to be Burt Reynolds' gardner. And this car just happens to be one (of several) that was used in the movies. And this Trans Am just happens to now live in my sister's driveway. Burt gave it to Al!

I was a good sister-in-law and made the appropriate postive comments about the noisy pipes and "wow, 100 mph" kind of stuff that Al was expecting. I've never seen Burt Reynolds in person but I did ride (at 100 mph) by the entrance to his estate. Kinda cool, huh?

Just because

I do really love my sisters, both younger and each very different from each other and from me (thank God!). This is my sister (Goofy 2) getting ready to head into the great white outdoors of Vermont. She lives in Florida. We were visiting Goofy 1 (the other sister) for Christmas. Don't you think she looks like the Uni-bomber?

These are the first 2 quilting books I ever purchased. I could never get rid of them! They're old and well-loved. I made my first quilt in 1975 (man, I'm old). Back in the day ... we drew pattern templates on cardboard - often cereal boxes, and then traced them onto the fabric. It was tedious. I read someone's blog that said somethink like - it's almost better when you don't know just how much you don't know, otherwise you might not attemp it. I actually made several quilts before ever taking a class. I encourage people all the time to take classes and still do myself. It still surprises me how much there is to learn and how much inspiration can from other quilters.
Thank God the rotary cutter was invented! Someday I'll post about my first experience with THAT piece of equipment ... it wasn't pretty.

This last picture is part of a block swap I'm doing with my buddies, Starlyn and Dawn (Spring Water Designs). The block is called Buffalo Ridge from the book Nickel Quilts. We only have one more round to swap. Soon - a wonderful mostly plaid quilt. We've been doing some shop hopping when we get together to swap blocks. It's really been fun exploring shops that are a little out of my normal travel area and especially fun doing it with 2 friends.
