North Star

When there's lots of mess to clean up, a few tops that need quilting AND several ufo's ... what's a quilter to do?

Start a new project - of course!

I have a LOT of homespun fabric.
a lot a lot

Pat Speth, the Nickel Quilt Lady is offering a FREE quilt-along
Go to her web site, sign up for her email.
Every Monday she adds a new part.
You can also just buy her pattern for $7.00. I bought the pattern so I could have the whole thing up front. Now I can work on it (and/or ahead) as I wish.

I cut all the fabric for 20 blocks. I put them together into little "kits".
Great use for binding clips!
I have NEVER used binding clips for binding!

As I'm sewing/making the blocks, I am immediately kitting the cut-offs.
These make great leader/enders.
I am really trying NOT to add more cut-off triangles to my mess.

I've started!
These blocks will not actually be set next to each other.
There will be pieced sashing and corner stone blocks ... soon.
AND - I'm stitching up cute little churn dash blocks for a future project.

The background (yellow) and the block centers (orange/yellow check) are cut from yardage. The remaining block parts have all come from my homespun scrap basket.

20 blocks cut/prepped and this is my scrap basket ...
can't even tell I took out quite a chunk of fabric.

Will I ever see the bottom of this basket?
Will I manage to use up some yardage from the scary closet?
Stay tuned!
