FAQ

I've often been asked, "how long does it take to make a pair of socks?"  My answer varies but if I'm talking to a quilter, I usually respond, " as long as it takes to make a quilt."  I've never timed it and there are so many factors involved - the pattern, the size, the amount of time I can devote to it, how many mistakes I make (and how many I choose to correct!), how complicated the pattern. This applies to socks and quilts.

I started a pair of socks at the beginning of April - very simple, straight-forward easy socks. The first one I mostly knitted at hockey games, until my needle broke (very sad) and I was stuck without the correct size for a week!

The second sock was going really quickly because I spent a good part of Friday at the doctor with Kid#1 - a bit of ear surgery, then in the car driving to the metro station, then at the Capitals hockey game - 3 intermissions, thanks to overtime.  A lot of knitting happened on Friday!

Can you tell in this picture - there's a problem?  Sock on the left is a 1/2" bigger around then the one on the right.  Hmmmm - seems I grabbed the WRONG NEEDLE!

The real question-of-the-day ... how long does it take to undo a sock? No time at all - minutes, in fact.

Undone, rolled up and ready to go - again.  Yes - those are the correct size needles.
